Mixing live performance with artificial intelligence software, False Peach flips the switch between man and machine in a Hamlet for our digital era. The incomparable actor Scott Shepherd (Gatz) works in conjunction with computers, automated lighting systems, sound design and video that have all been programmed to generate a new production of the play nightly. New scenes, songs, scores and visuals emerge from an intricate and ingeniously programmed web of technology that uses Shakespeare’s original text as data. False Peach includes an all-star list of collaborators, including Shepherd, scenic/video artist Jim Findlay (Cynthia Hopkins, Ralph Lemon), lighting designers Ruth Waldeyer/Bruno Bocheron, sound designer Greg Beller and famed programmer Mark Hansen (Listening Post).

Annie Dorsen is an Obie Award-winning director, creator and all-around arts maven who works in a variety of fields, including theater, film, dance and digital performance. She is the co-creator and director of the 2008 Broadway musical Passing Strange, a piece eventually filmed by Spike Lee and screened everywhere from Sundance to PBS’s Great Performances. She has taught at Bard College and is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama.

False Peach was supported through On the Boards’ Performance Production Program.
