Pat Graney's Faith and Caravaggio Oct 12, 2010

When Pat Graney created Faith in 1991, she referenced a series of Caravaggio's paintings. Check out some of the images after the jump and see if you can spot how these are quoted in Faith, the first part of Faith Triptych.

Fee-fi-fo…fecund Oct 8, 2010

…Running rabbits can symbolize a waking life situation requiring a hare's agility. Such a dream may also be a communication that one needs to stop using the mind as a tool for over-analyzing a situation and begin using it as a means to productively process intuitive information.

I relish the moments when our urge to define is suspended. When the unexpected giant-slide-for-the-mind-wormhole appears, I will willingly get aboard and ride it through space and time freed from everything but that very experience.

Refinement on the Bleeding Edge Oct 8, 2010

If you are reading this blog entry, you are most likely engaged enough with the dance scene in Seattle that you read some of the deluge of articles about Christian Rizzo both as an enigma as well as the giddy and heartfelt reviews of his recent performances in NYC.  Last night while I was deeply enjoying his opening night performance at On the Boards, I wondered “What could I possibly say that has not been said already in all the glowing press.”  You have most likely heard all about his rockstar nature, his dream career, his muse and dancer Julie Guibert and the fact that this performance,

I heard "highly stylized and gestural" and I thought, "Oh no not a gesture dance," even though i like making them myself. But the stage was enclosed white and the curtain opened fast on us all chatting in our seats and that was exciting off the bat. Soft black sculptures hung from the ceiling and they looked like high fashion archetypal entrails, some with hair. She was lying on a table.

FLYING SOLO Oct 8, 2010

I made a conscious choice not to read anything before going to the opening night of Christian Rizzo. I wanted to see how the experience would be without references.

Of course the side affect of making such a choice is that you can’t know how it would have been had you made the other choice. If I had read the words of the artist would I be able to make deeper connections during the performance? What was the significance of the masked figure? Was that a rabbit mask? (The only association I had was Harvey from the Jimmy Stewart movie)

Tell us what you think about b.c, janvier 1545, fontainebleau. Oct 7, 2010

Christian is a dialogue starter (documented here) and we'd love to hear what you think.

If you saw the show, what did you think of the use of movement, sound, lights and sculpture? And how about that bunny mask?

Put your thoughts in the comments!
