In Memoriam: Alain Buffard Jan 2, 2014
by Erin
It is with sadness and respect that we note the passing of choreographer Alain Buffard.
Buffard was a French choreographer who considered himself to be a product of American dance. Buffard was widely known across Europe as a choreographer, performer and filmmaker whose work engaged seriously in the social and political realms. His work elegantly navigated the vulnerabilitess of the human body and spirit, including profound insights into physicality, sexuality, gender and race.
On the Boards is proud to present his grand-scale dance/theater work Baron Samedi in May 2014.
Please visit the New Art blog for a lovely overview of his work, including a video excerpt of his conversational project with Anna Halprin (My Lunch With Anna).
Read a review of Buffard’s seminal work, Mauvais Genre in TimeOut New York.
