Since I missed the Studio show (kicking myself), I'm posting questions I've asked Vanessa DeWolf:

1. Why is performance art and modern dance so often...so frenzied and angry?

 

2. When a dancer starts to twitch, writhe, beat themselves and fall to the ground do you work harder to find reason, or the opposite? Since this seems to happen a lot, is there a collective debate as to where the 'pain' comes from? Is this a reference point in dance vocabulary, or indulgent 'acting out'?

NW New Works alum wins big at Portland's Drammy Awards Jun 15, 2011

One of the highlights of the 2010 NW New Works Festival was Erin Leddy's My Mind Is Like an Open Meadow. After she wrapped the festival here, Erin developed the piece into a full length performance. It was just announced that the piece won 5 Drammy Awards (Portland's theater awards), including best Solo Perfomance, Sound Design, Lighting Design, Original Music and Original Production.
