Deborah Hay's "Mountain" by Brangien Davis Apr 20, 2007

In the program notes for Deborah Hay’s “Mountain, ” the choreographer is quoted as saying, “It is easy to imagine a mountain teeming with life. How is it that we look for shape in the dancing body and forget to imagine it is teeming with life? ” I read this just before the lights went down and took it as a directive: look for signs of teeming life.

Deborah Hay's Mountain reviewed in the Seattle Times Apr 20, 2007

This review appeared in the Seattle Times: "Hay's odd and wonderful "Mountain" at On the Boards is a work of pure movement, though it doesn't seem to be about just the body moving through space. It is as though dancer-choreographers Gaelen Hanson, Peggy Piacenza and Amelia Reeber are using another medium altogether, an interior one, call it mind or spirit. The result is dance that is engrossing, subtle, sometimes comical and always unpredictable." Read More

Deborah Hay Dance Company: I'm still thinking... by Mark Haim Apr 20, 2007

I was excited to sit in the second row, close to the action. I wanted to feel myself "in" it. The curtain opens really, REALLY slowly. I slowly enter the space opening to me. More and more space/ less and less chatter. I'm there. I really am. Or I thought I was there.... I'm watching these three women move. Articulately, thoughtfully, rhythmically, unpredictably. I pull away. I start wondering about things. I feel my brain working hard. Too hard. I struggle to find my way in again. It's as if the curtain has shut again between me and the stage dancers. I feel myself separat

Deborah Hay Dance Co by Koushik Apr 20, 2007

Dismembered words, disembodied movements, and bodies drifting in space eschewing relationships. Is this how we are, or can be? These questions are posed in this work by Ms. Hays. However, it seems that we do come together at times, marching to a discordant drumbeat, to display the worst in us, expressing a repulsive claim to this world which is particularly male, even as the ineffectual female draws out cramped contours of recoil and grace in hesitation and defeat, on a canvas dominated by drummer boy and the violent male. It is the drummer boy who ultimately yells.

Reggie Wilson/ Fist and Heel by Allison Van Dyck Apr 13, 2007

I loved this show. In a geniunely touched to the spirit kind of way. As a choreographer and dancer watching this show, I was really pressed to think about contemporary dance performance and what it means to "choreograph", "design movement," "perform." These are all concepts that can be adopted superficially onto the body and by the artist and/or they are concepts that can be generated from the core in a raw, honest, simple way. This is what I saw in the performance last night.

Reggie Wilson - I said: "My cat would love it" by Ines Andrade Apr 13, 2007

Would have been love at first sight for my cat: shimmery shiny sparkly curtains all over the stage, Disco music and bodies rolling on the floor. Please be reassured, the performance was highly enjoyable for humans as well. This was a stress free experience, that made the audience wanting to dance and join. Just that, is cool in itself. At the edge of corkiness, it almost started as a dance history documentary, with lots of humorous moments. The mix of poor choreography and fascinating moves did not really do it for me.

Reggie Wilson: The Tale Review by Josh Reisberg Apr 13, 2007

I went to see The Tale: Npinpee Nckutchie and the Tail of the Golden Dek. What's that you ask? It is Reggie Wilson/ Fist and Heel Performance Group's production presented by On the Boards. The show is running April 12-14th. I highly recommend it. As I walked into the auditorium I was already feeling good, but the metallic glittering streamers that were shimmering blue and purple made me feel even better. By the way I'm color blind so you can't trust me on the colors. But it looked like a funky disco was about to happen. The dancers came out and were dressed only in black.
